Weather Situation
A weak high pressure ridge extending across southern Victoria will move over
Tasmania today. A high pressure system associated with the ridge will be
located south of the Bight on Thursday while a low pressure trough develops
over northern Victoria. The high will move eastwards on Friday as an upper
level cold pool of air moves over western Victoria. By Saturday the trough over
northern Victoria and the upper cold pool may weaken slightly as the high
continues its slow progression eastwards.
Forecast for Wednesday 8 February until midnight
Winds: Southerly 15 to 20 knots tending southeasterly 5 to 10 knots later in
the evening. Seas: 0.5 to 1 metre.
Forecast for Thursday 9 February
Winds: South to southeasterly 5 to 10 knots becoming southerly 10 to 15 knots
during the afternoon then tending southeasterly 15 to 25 knots by early
evening. Seas: Below 0.5 metres increasing to 0.5 to 1 metre by early evening.
Forecast for Friday 10 February
Winds: East to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots tending easterly up to 10 knots
during the morning then tending south to southeasterly up to 15 knots during
the afternoon. Winds becoming southeasterly 20 to 25 knots during the evening.
Seas: Below half a metre rising 1 to 1.5 metres during the evening. The chance
of thunderstorms with higher gusts.
Forecast for Saturday 11 February
Winds: South to southeasterly 15 to 25 knots becoming southeasterly 20 to 30
knots during the morning then decreasing to 15 to 25 knots during the
afternoon. Winds decreasing to southeasterly 15 to 20 knots during the evening.
Seas: 1 to 1.5 metres, reaching 2 metres at times until mid afternoon.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:40 pm EDT Wednesday.
