Jimmy Wirtanen - Instructor  I'm Jimmy Wirtanen and I like water sports, relaxing by the beach and
long candlelit dinners…
I began diving 5 years ago after a life long
love of the ocean and all things related lead me to the underwater
world. After growing up surfing, fishing and water skiing I figured the
next step would be to check out whats under the waves, and now I am
completely lost to the deep.
The Big Blue is my favourite movie (closely followed by The Hunt For
Red October), Sharks are my favourite animal and the smell of wet
neoprene is my answer to Napalm in the morning. So far my favourite
dive site is the HMAS Hobart in SA, The Canberra is quickly starting to
overtake this. Closer to home The George Kermode or J4.
Overseas I have dived in Tonga which is fantastic but by far my most favorite site is Scapa Flow.The History, The Orkneys and the people make for one of the best dive trips you can have.
Diving was my
passion and escape from the 10 year career in Radio and TV - Now thanks to Kat and Trav, it will be my whole life, both pleasure and work. I am incredibly lucky that the Rye store came up for grabs, and that Kat and Trav bit the bullet and had the confidence to invite me to be a part of this adventure. I am looking forward to meeting everyone that dives out of Rye and helping to turn the Rye store into the fantastic club that Glen Iris already is, that and a daily dive before work - who wouldn't want that...
