Hello Newsletter Tester,

Winter has finally taken hold! Colds and snotty noses all round. The swells are up, winds are roaring and the temp has dropped. However diving conditions are still very good. Visibility is good and only getting better. Plenty of Club shore and boat dives to keep all our members in the water. Winter is a great time of the year to get those courses you have been wanting to do done, as conditions are good and diver numbers are smaller on the boats. Jimmy is still chilly down at Rye waiting for the AC to be fixed, (doing a super job mate) Trav is still holding down the fort at Glen Iris with kids in tow while I travel between Shops and instruct on the weekends. (Love being back in Melbourne Waters)
For those who where wondering where Trav and I had disappeared to last Thursday Club Night, we had to race to the Hills to attend to a Trampoline injury! Oliver has 10 Stiches in his head after the Trampoline came crashing down on top of him, he was a bit quite for a few days, but as you know Oliver isn't a shy one so that did not last long.

So here is what has been happening.

Kate ( yes the little one, we dragged her out of the aquarium)  has been busy sorting out some more trips for the rest of 2010,

* Dive the Yongala whilst relaxing on a liveaboard in October 13th - 15th.(TBC)
* South West Rocks trip in December 10th - 12th.(TBC)
* Another Mike Ball Minke Whale Trip in 2011 after the huge success of the 2009 adventure up that way, that is one trip you do not want to miss.

Matty has been super busy with his videos see them here

We are still conducting a variety of courses every weekend. From August will are the only dive shops in Melbourne to offer an Open Water Course every weekend. So a great time to refer your family and mates and take up the $50 referral reward.

DSCN0879.JPGThe compressor room is finished (thanks Hugh for volunteering/ getting pushed into thisDSCN0881.JPG one) and get our new compressor connected.  After nearly 6 months of waiting we will finally have our new AOS baby that we can cherish for years. It has streamline all our tank filling operations here at Glen Iris.  Very excited.

Still heaps going on so read below.

Someone sent me something interesting:-

  Project_aware_sharks.JPGDear Shark Advocate,

It's been one month since Project AWARE launched the "Give Sharks a Fighting Chance" petition to demand international protection for critical shark species on the brink. In just a few short weeks nearly 25,000 divers and shark advocates like you have voiced their concern.

Are you in?

If you've not yet taken action - your help is needed today. Sign the petition to give threatened sharks species like hammerheads, oceanic whitetip and spiny dogfish a chance to survive.

Thank you to each of the 25,000 supporters who've signed the petition so far. With your help we're preparing to deliver a clear message to CITES Party representatives and demand better shark protection worldwide. As I've read through the signatures and concerns from divers around the globe, one thing is clear - divers are uniting with a common goal to demand better shark protection worldwide.

Despite recent setbacks at CITES 2010, shark advocates like you have helped secure protections in Europe, Palau, Maldives and most recently, Hawaii. As we speak, the United States Senate is poised to take action on the Shark Conservation Act to strengthen anti-finning legislation and show leadership in shark conservation.

But to ensure survival for the most vulnerable and heavily traded shark species, we must persuade CITES Party representatives around the world to control international trade for the future.

Please take two minutes of action and sign the petition today. Already signed? Help spread the word by asking your family, friends and colleagues to sign. Do you Facebook or tweet? Post the petition page (www.projectaware.org/givesharksachance) to your favorite social networking sites.

Thank you for being part of this global effort.

Sincerely,

Jenny Miller Garmendia
Director, Project AWARE Foundation
