Safety is top priority when we’re scuba diving. In the PADI Deep Diver course you will learn the correct use of specialised equipment, which will increase your safety margins and ensure that you are confident diving to depth. Academy of Scuba is committed to competent, thorough training and keeps instructor to student ratios low with 4 students to 1 instructor, so each course is adapted to the individual.
It is important to practice dive planning and depth management, so you are in control of your diving and get the most from each and every dive. Academy of Scuba’s instructors are all highly trained and experienced deep divers, offering expert knowledge to every diver. We will also help you make informed decisions on essential equipment investments, offering professional advice and outstanding service.

What You Learn
Techniques for diving in the deeper range of 18-40 metres/ 60-130 feet
Deep scuba diving equipment considerations
Experience in planning, organising and making at least four deep dives under the supervision of your PADI Instructor
Best ways to safely enter and exit the water
Stowing your gear in the most appropriate areas
Using surface lines to initiate or conclude your dives
Locating basic boat safety equipment
To start the PADI Deep Diver course you must be:
15 years old and Advanced Open Water certified
Diving Medical – subject to medical questionnaire. Liability Release, Safe Diving practices Statement of Understanding will need to be verified
A full dive medical must be obtained prior to starting this training if there are any ‘yes’ answers on the medical questionnaire. For a list of diving doctors please go to www.spums.org.au

The PADI Deep Diver course consists of 1 evening of theory and 2 days diving

Open Water Dives – 4 boat dives to deep dive sites outside Port Phillip Bay
Getting the right equipment is essential to enhancing your diving experience. It is recommended to have your own scuba gear for the Deep specialty. For your course, please make sure you own at minimum a mask, snorkel, boots, fins, underwater torch, a slate and a DSMB and reel.
To get the maximum benefit from this course, we recommend investing in your own regulators, BCD and computer. Please call the shop or have a look on our online store for options. Equipment hire is available at the standard rates.
Where You Dive
Dive sites will be selected based on depth and optimum conditions, with the weather taken into account. All dives will be boat dives and you will need to have logged minimum one shore dive in Victoria in the last 6 months before going on the boats.
The deeper dive sites are usually parts of the Lonsdale Wall or Wreck sites, such as the HMAS Canberra or the J1 Submarine. You will also be able to dive these wrecks in the Wreck Diver course.
